Abstract

The Conference “Scientific-Technological Potential of Africa” (10 February 2021, online), organized by the Centre for Transitional Economy Studies of the Institute for African Studies, Russian Academy of Sciences, was devoted to the development of the scientific researches and professional education’ problems during the period of Africa’s independency.

Nowadays in accordance to the ‘Sustainable Development Goals’ (2016-2030), TechnologyFacilitationMechanism (UN) was created and adopted by all African states in the program “Science, Technology and Innovation Strategy for Africa-2024”.

The speakers were concentrated on the five directions of the discussion: scientific-technological strategies of large African countries; high technologies investigations, especially in the spheres of renewable energy and nuclear power, including the perspectives of Russian-African co-operation; the methods of digital transformation in the agriculture; the researches on the socio-economic themes including studies of the labour force in Africa; the promotion of innovations in business activities by organizing the special technological centers, using the innovations in the nano-technologies’ inclusion.

As a number of speakers have said, because of the national scientific centers and the systems of the professional education (especially qualified high education) development in African countries, the process of replacing the imported modern technologies by their own investigations is forced. Instead of this positive process, the national component contributes small part to the scientific-technological potential. This situation could be improved by means of fruitful scientific and educational co-operation of African countries on the regional, continental and internationallevels.
