Abstract

In the article, the author draws attention to the revitalization of African countries activities on the development of alternative energy sources after participation in the international exhibition EXPO-2017 in Astana (Kazakhstan) on the theme “Development of the future energy. New types of energetics". The transition to "green energy" will make it possible to stop the process of global warming on the planet.

The entry into force of the Kyoto Protocol and the Decisions of the 2015 Paris Climate Conference provided an impetus for enhancing the development of Renewable Energy Sources (RES) in Africa, based on its favorable natural resources.

The article notes that besides reduction of СО2 emissions into the atmosphere, the development of renewable energy sources in Africa can positively affect the region, increasing precipitation, which will lead to the stimulation of the emergence of new vegetation. As an example, studies by US specialists from the University of Illinois and Maryland, which, after studying the results of climate modeling, made the assumption that the action of large solar and wind power plants in the Sahara desert could increase precipitation in the amount of 0.25 to 2 times per a day.

The article shows how a number of leading capitalist states, such as Canada, Denmark, Germany, Norway, Italy, Great Britain and USAID together, acted as donors to help African countries develop green technologies. European countries are interested in the energy-transforming process that will help replace coal and oil that are detrimental to the ecology of the planet.

The author concludes that, despite the high cost of electricity production with using RES, as compared to traditional, nevertheless, it is more perspective for the future. Renewable sources of energy could actively develop only with the state support, which is currently being done by a number of countries in North Africa
