Abstract
The «Arab Spring» that began in December 2010 in Tunisia and later in other African countries marked the dawn of a new era of the trade union movement in Africa. The «round table» on «The Role of Trade Unions in the modern social and political life of the countries of Africa» held at the Institute of African Studies in November 2014 was devoted to analysis of the driving forces behind the new protest movements and the role of trade unions in general.
